Yesterday we brought home a 55" LCD Toshiba that is on sale now at Best Buy for $750. I am very unhappy with the picture. The edges are fuzzy and pixelated, the motion is blurry and the SD channels are so bad that they are unwatchable.
So, as requested in the sticky, here are my details, and just to add, we are not really interested in Plasma because our kids often do marathon gaming sessions for several hours at a time:
1. We will be from 9-11 feet from the screen.
2. We are replacing a 27" tube, this will be our first HDTV
3. 1/3 movies, 1/3 TV shows, (mostly Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc.) and 1/3 gaming console
4. It is unlikely that it will be used as a PC display but we may want to connect occasionally.
5. We are getting the Panasonic DMP-BCT110 for Blu Ray and streaming. We don't have cable or satellite TV, we have an attic antenna.
6. Are you looking for the best in class display, the best bargain display, or best bang for the buck in the middle display?
I am not sure how to answer this question, I want a display I can live with that is at least as good as the 40" Sony we returned, I'm not sure what class it is considered. I can't stand the motion blur, soft edges and pixelation on the Toshiba.
7. Are you interested in seeing 3D with the new 3DTVs? If not, what about next year since TVs are usually kept for many years so consider that?
If there is one within our price range that has sufficient quality/screen size, we would be open to it,but it isn't a requirement.
8. This will be our main TV it is in a room that doesn't get much light, and it will be watched/used mainly at night.
9. We need to stay around $1000 including tax, warranties, etc.
10. The viewing angle from the TV is about 40 degrees I would guess. Largish curved couch/sectional.
