A Brewing Population | Amazing Blog For Food And Drink
One of the explanations the hobby of home brewing is so common is that you are not just taking up a pastime, you are becoming part of a closely knit population of home brewing that has its own knowledge, language and social structure that is exclusive to brewers alone.
Of course, the social aspect of drinking beer is well known. The foundation of pubs and bars that offers to customers a place of ease, friendship polo ralph lauren outlet , fun and entertainment is about a lot more than just tipping back a delicious drink, it is a part of our culture that goes back to revolutionary times when our most important documents were hashed out over a beer. And the significance of sharing a beer is just as effective today as we all delighted in thinking about that bar where ?everybody knows your name? called Cheers.
So just as the cultural aspect of enjoying a beer with others is powerful and well entrenched in our culture, so too is the art of making beer a deeply rooted part of general public that goes back generations. That approval has regular revivals and we are seeing a surge of interest in brewing today as all over the country brew pubs are springing up around delicious home grown beers that in many cases are far better than the mass produced beers that are massively advertised during the Super Bowl.
This well developed and advanced brewing society not only will be of great assistance to you as you start to learn about becoming a home brewer yourself, it will become a culture that is a lot of fun to be part of and where you may make a support group for life as you share with others your love of making your own beer. In America the grass roots level lifestyle of home brewing is growing fast. This is no small issue to the big retail brewers who cannot possibly make the excellence and rich kinds of beers that can be made at the local level. But this is a natural expansion as we follow our cousins in the UK where keg beers made locally domineer the world of beer consumption in a culture where pubs are a central part of the fabric of the general public.
One cause home brewing has such an interest is the huge diversity of beers you can invent and the control you have over flavor, consistency and alcohol levels. In most cases, once you have your basic equipment for brewing beer five finger shoes , it is more economic to make your own beer. And there is something delightful about brewing up a big batch of beer to put back to ferment as you take pleasure in a five gallon batch you made last month. Beer brewers can become quite engrossed with flavor, color and ?punch? and always be looking for new ways to become better at this fun and interesting pastime.
Whatever level of involvement in beer making appeals to you, you can probably find new friends in the beer brewing society that you can share your hobby with. There are beer brewing radio stations and ham radio channels dedicated to helping novice brewers share their secret recipes and solve each other?s mistakes. And there are home made beer competitions that can really put some challenge that all on you to make that blue ribbon beer that rally makes the judges sit up and take notice.
So as you find yourself getting more and more fervent and ?caught up? in the fun of home brewing with beer kits jordan high heels , don?t be embarrassed by that because you can find a diverse assortment of other beer making enthusiasts to share your pastime with. Popularity of detoxification diets
?
?Man does not die, he kills himself.? ? Seneca
?
It is true that in this fast paced modern life most of us do not pay much of attention to our health until one day the system of ours are badly affected with a bang! The main reasons of obesity, constipation and other health related issues are the lack of the right nutrients in our daily food intake. The fast food life style and the stress factors of our day to day life forces our body to take on much more than it would normally sustain. The detoxification and the detoxification diets are becoming quite popular these days. They are proven to remove toxins as well as improve the body?s natural energy levels. It has also given constipation remedies to those suffering from constipation. The raw food diet is an ideal detox diet .This sort of detox diet is primarily composed of raw fruits and simple veggies with a handy dressing like oil and vinegar .This kind of fruits? intake improves the body?s energy levels and unlike the intake of fast food items the intake of uncooked raw vegetables are proven to go make the body and its systems work more effectively. The resolutions to take the short term detox diet for 3-12-23 days would enable one to get rid of bloating, improve the concentration, avoid the mood swings and finally triggers our body to involve in the self healing path.
?
Importance of fruit in your diet
?
There are varied myths pertaining to the raw food intake and there are people who argue that the intake of raw fruits/veggies would never be sufficient for an active person. Now we need to be clear with one thing and that means whichever way we treat our body must prove to have long standing benefits. If we agree to that then there is no reason to hold us back from trying out the raw fruits diet. A day can be started with a fruit of your choice and the meals of the day can be divided with the inclusion of lots of fresh vegetables like corn kernels, fresh cilantro, snow peas, tomatoes, green onions, green apples and little intake of carbohydrate filled white bread, rice.
?
Follow Detox diet for better health
?
There are people who claim that they would follow this detox diet by actively drinking chemical fruit juices available in bottles. This is a big flaw and such intake of sugar rich fruit juices would certainly make your body suffer many other health related issues. Unlike the more expensive and less beneficial sausages and pastas why not switch yourself to this raw food intake regime for a short period and notice how this kind of diet provides constipation remedies, improve /stimulate effective immunity levels of your body!

SINdie - Singapore Films Only: Crossing Over: Gary Ow
SINdie: How did you become?a film?producer?being in the IT industry before this?
Gary: My entertainment career started in 2009 when my play (Vampire Monologues) won Best Runner-up in Theatre Idols 2009 contest. It was so funny that the judge, Pek Siok Lian, told me to go into standup comedy. At the time, a standup comedy open mike club was starting up and I discovered I wasn't funny on stage. It took at least three months to hone my material, timing and delivery to finally be able to "kill" (meaning, make an audience laugh with nonstop consistent strong laughter)... and kill consistently. One of my mentors suggested taping my own sets to study myself. When I did, I figured out how to frame a shot and use a camera.
SINdie: What inspired the switch over to explore filmmaking?
Gary: Well, from taping my own sets (while I was on stage), I learnt to trim and edit. I learnt how to use a greenscreen. I then started making short skit comedy videos and posting them on YouTube. But I wasn't always happy with the result. The camera was always low-res and the sound was usually weak or muffled. So I bought training material on DVDs and books on how to fix those problems. But it wasn't enough. I wanted my videos to look professional. I started taking professional short courses in editing, shooting and screenwriting.
Something happened in parallel at the time. My web programming clients started asking for videos to be uploaded to YouTube. I was a hobbyist at the time, but I was champing at the bit to put what I learnt into practice. So I started small and started making little ads and corporate videos for them. Nothing too adventurous at first, just small projects I could handle.?
A lot of things happened in that compressed period. Example: I discovered that the comedic timing I learnt on stage... applied to video editing as well. Most editors leave too much or too little lag time for that comedic pause. My cuts were right on the mark. In screenwriting classes, I learnt to "show not tell"... I learnt that "less is more" in film. In shooting, I learnt many techniques on framing, compositing, and even how to interview people.
SINdie: How did your colleagues/ family/ friends react to your decision?
Gary: They thought of me as a hobbyist filmmaker and I didn't correct them. I was still earning my keep as a web programmer and doing short films on the weekends. I was also shooting my own comedy act to watch for errors, mis-timings and places where jokes could be improved. I didn't start out as a Scorcese or Tarantino and by god, if I ever get there...
SINdie: Was there stigma knowing that you'd be seen as a "first-ime filmmaker" with your debut film? How did you deal with it?
Gary: To be honest, I have been snubbed by a lot of industry old-hats: they expect things to be done the "proper" way. See, in entertainment, I learnt comedy first, then editing, then screenwriting, then shooting and directing. I feel that the order in which I learnt it helps a lot more because very experienced editors tell me that directors tend to shoot too much coverage. I shoot usually just enough footage and coverage to tell the story and have a bit left over for the editor to save the shot.
In contrast, the old-hats expect one to sit down, finish the full script and rewrite it 6 or 7 times (or 27 times, if need be). If that method works for you, more power to you. While my scripts have an overall story structure, I prefer to write in bursts.
Lastly, the industry old-hats did cynically wish me "good luck" with a smirk and a sneer. They couldn't believe I raised "that kind of money" so quickly. But like I said, more power to them.
?
SINdie: Ever regretted the decision, or thought of going back?
Gary: No, I wished I started earlier and in some respects, I did. As a kid, I memorized entired movie scripts and just repeated them all day, throughout school. Whenever class was starting to get boring, I would recall an entire movie and replay it in my head. I guess that's where I learnt a movie's natural dialogue rhythm.
SINdie: Why the interest of zombies in
?
Gary: Look, on the surface, zombies are the living undead. But they really represent the unthinking people around us, don't they? They represent the un-imaginative, the non-creative (arrrrrgh) people we deal with everyday. You must know who I mean. The rigid, anal-retentive, stickler-for-rules type of person. The type of person who can't think out of the box, or believes "It's my way or the highway". And Singapore largely, has been criticized for creating that sort of "unimaginative administrator" culture. Kiasu culture.
?
For instance, name one Singaporean who has made a global blockbuster movie (I don't mean "local blockbuster" nor do I mean "critically-acclaimed-won-something-at-Cannes"). See? Nothing. I mean sure, a Singaporean invented the Soundblaster and the Thumb-drive, but movies that a global audience can identify with and enjoy? Not happening yet. So zombies gives us a good genre fan base to appeal to.
?
SINdie: Could you share with us the progress of your film at this stage?
?
Gary: I've shot the trailer. Full scale shooting started on?
?
SINdie: What do you want viewers to get out of your first piece of work?
Gary: "Now that was fucken funny!"
We at SINdie wish?Gary all the best in his filmmaking adventures, and we look forward to?be tickled by?"Hsien of the Dead"!If you know of any other individuals who have "crossed over" to the world of filmmaking, drop us an email at sindieonly@gmail.com - we'd like to feature these inspiring souls!

Two individuals that absolutely adore one another and wish to take their partnership in a more serious level can choose to get committed. Two individuals who are happy with each other might opt to marry some day. Don't forget, you are not merely located together with each other. Relationship will merely be valid if you have been blessed by your religious beliefs or by the relatives. Variations are inevitable when you enter a marriage since you must be competent to spend time along with your wife or husband. However, getting committed doesn't imply that you will leave your family and friends. To support the preferred lifestyle, you may choose from any of the living agreements that traditional husbands and wives choose. Your relatives might be thrilled to welcome you and your husband or wife to their household if you still wish to be around with them. You may also think about living near many of your closest buddies.
You and your partner may have your diverse circle of pals and you can also acquire common friends. Once your marital life has existed for some years, some difficulties may come up, and the friendship that you once viewed as undamaging may cause additional rift in your marital relationship. You may get near with one of your friends or perhaps with one of your friends and then on, that may cause emotional affair. This doesn't mean that you want to cheat on your partner--sometimes you need to have the ability to speak and your good friend turns out to be there. If your friend and you get personal sentiments for each other, infidelity will become an issue in your marital life.
Sometimes individuals don't really have a notion that they're starting an affair, specially when it is with a good friend. As your companion is the one you turn to when you need to talk about your disappointment in your marriage, it's only natural to cultivate solid emotions and attachment with him/her. Seeking comfort and ease from a close friend is significantly greater once you and your partner continue to fight a lot and you're feeling that your passion for the other person is already insufficient.
If you are kind and accommodating to your close friend, and since you spend a lot of time together, it's easy for him/her to fall for you. The coincidence that your spouse isn't offering you enough recognition and love will just make it more convenient for you to reciprocate the feelings of your buddy. The concept of breakup will be a good choice if you feel your extramarital affair with your mate is better than your passion for your husband or wife. Don't just decide on that quickly. Think of your actions first. Do you think to expect your friend to become as nurturing and loving as he is right now? Have all strains of affection for your husband or wife undoubtedly been wiped out and the only adoration that you sense is the one for your personal friend?
A couple forgiving infidelitywould need to brave some rough patches, but this may deal with some concerns like how come your friend is causing you to be satisfied while your husband or wife isn't. Once you and your significant other talk about the situation, you could discuss the possible factors why you got close to your pal very easily. If you talk it through with your loved one, it is simple to understand where the problem started out and sort things out. See? It's so easy. If that marriage problem has been settled, your spouse and you may resume as a satisfied married couple and enjoying the fact that you love one another enough to keep wedded.

Rubbish Relationships: Why Adele's Grammy Acceptance Speech ...
The other day I was talking to my friend Jenny about a few pieces of poetry I?d been working on. I read her one I?d written over the phone because I yearned for some feedback.
?That?s really beautiful,? she said to me. ?It?s so raw and full of emotion.?
When we write a poem or a story, we want to hear someone say something along these lines. It helps validate our writing, as it should reflect the depth and breadth of emotion we attempt to convey through the words we put on the page. Expressing the emotions we felt for someone in our past or recounting that feeling of letting go of someone is certainly something most people can identify with in some fashion.
When she finished commenting on my poem, she said, ?It reminds of Adele?s speech last night.?
I knew exactly what she was referring to?Adele?s reference to rubbish relationships. Adele had said, Grammy in hand, ?This album was inspired by something that is really normal and everyone?s been through it?it?s a rubbish relationship.?
So true.
Rubbish relationships are the foundation of many stories, films, poems, songs, and the reason why so many psychologists and psychiatrists stay in business. The care of the soul after love. The broken heart. The loss of love. The drama of first love, engagements, marriages, divorces, and even deaths.
I can?t get enough of stories about relationships. I?m reading a novel now about an older couple who fall in love. It?s sweet and sentimental. I?ve written one about a younger couple who fall in love, but then go through a difficult time when the reality of family, life, and careers come into play. There?s a downfall. I draw on emotions I?ve experienced in my past to help me write my characters and their own experiences. If you can?t allow yourself to go to that place?no matter how rotten it may have been?you may not be effective.
When a heart falls in love, it?s wonderful.
However, it?s the ability to convey the emotions of the breaking heart that wins the affection of the public.
Incidentally, we don?t use the word ?rubbish? here in America like the British folks do. From here on out, I?m promising to substitute the word ?rubbish? for words I normally use to describe unsuccessful relationships. I?m rather fond of rubbish.
If you, like me, have been the victim of a rubbish relationship, be thankful you opened your eyes and were able to see it for what it was. Be thankful you got your wits back. It may have been hard, but it beats being swallowed up in a Red Sea of Rubbish.
Adele is thankful for it. It earned her a Grammy for Album of the Year.

Natural gas wells leakier than believed
Measurements at Colorado site show methane release higher than previous estimates
Web edition : 11:09 am
Wells that pump natural gas from the ground in Colorado have leaked about twice as much gas into the atmosphere as previously thought, a new study finds.
That could tarnish gas?s image as clean source of energy. Natural gas, made mostly of methane, does give off less carbon dioxide than coal when burned. But methane itself strongly warms the atmosphere, which means even relatively small releases can have a big impact on the climate.
?We?re seeing raw natural gas in the atmosphere,? says Gabrielle P?tron, an atmospheric scientist at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the University of Colorado Boulder. Her team reports the new findings, based on data gathered in 2007 and 2008, in an upcoming issue of the Journal of Geophysical Research.
P?tron and her colleagues monitored air quality near Denver using a 300-meter tower. NOAA maintains a network of such towers across the country. This one lies southwest of the Denver-Julesburg Basin, an area that feeds more than 20,000 natural gas wells.?
When winds blew in from the basin, levels of methane detected by sensors on the tower spiked. Landfills, cattle feedlots and wastewater treatment plants probably belched some of the gas into the sky. But methane from gas wells was accompanied by other components that allowed it to be fingerprinted and separated out in the analysis.
These measurements suggested that about 4 percent of the methane in the gas wells was leaking. Previous studies by the Environmental Protection Agency and by industry groups pegged this loss at between 1 and 2 percent. But the earlier estimates were done by measuring leakages from individual pieces of equipment.
?You tend to underestimate things when you do that kind of bottom-up approach,? says Robert Howarth, a biogeochemist at Cornell University.
Last year, Howarth found higher-than-expected levels of methane being released from wells that extract gas from shale ? a process called hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. His estimates, reported in 2011 in Climatic Change, suggested that extracting shale gas is substantially worse for climate change than mining coal.
P?tron hasn?t made this comparison. Her main concern, she says, is to work with the gas industry to keep methane out of the air.
Kathleen Sgamma of the Western Energy Alliance in Denver says gas wells in the area have already made some changes since the data used in the new study were collected that should cut down on leakage.

Common Since Ideas to Make Your Skin Beautiful | New Health and ...
What do you think it takes to keep your skin clean, clear and good looking? Do you think you need dozens of products? It is possible that, every once in a while, you have looked at different types of facial cleansers. Do you sometimes think about trying an expensive skin care treatment? Let us tell you right now that you really should not be considering any expensive skin care treatments! As with most things, money is not the answer, especially when it comes to healthy skin. It is important to note that by using your common sense, you can do much more than $1000 treatments that are available. Here are some examples of what we?re talking about. Anti-aging can come in the form of proper skin care.
By cleaning your sheets, and your pillowcases, on a regular basis, you can help your skin condition. During the day, you will collect dirt and other materials in your pores which will be deposited into your sheets when you sleep. The toxins that you sweat out each and every night will go back on your skin because they are on your bedsheets that you sleep in nightly. Likewise, you should also change your clothes everyday to avoid a similar issue. Physicians will even tell you that changing your linens every week is a great idea. Some people simply hate doing extra laundry, but it is necessary, in this case, to maintain epidermal cleanliness. Another little-known tip is that after you put on self tanning cream, your skin can actually be easier to damage. Although self tanning lotion is typically helpful for most people, those with sensitive skin may simply want to avoid extended exposure in direct sunlight later to prevent skin damage. If you like to use self tanning lotions, do not mix this with tanning in the sunlight, as this may cause discomfort to your skin that you will not enjoy. Tanning beds are also out of the question! So if you are tempted to create an artificial tan with bronzers and self tanners, stay indoors for at least a day after the application! The important thing to keep in mind is that your knowledge plus action on what you learn about skin care has great potential. If you want a little advice, as soon as you are done reading this then do not stop; immediately get to work.
Dare to be different in the sense that you will get up and move on this ? go forward, be bold and willing to do something. There is really a form of momentum in our lives, and the hard part for most is just simply getting started.
Everybody with a need to know this information can do something with it, just make sure you are one who does. Let?s see what else there is to know about this topic.
We know or at least believe that will have a better feeling for things once you get through this. When it all begins to gel for you, then you will be able to rise above to some degree thanks to added knowledge. It is natural for us humans to want to have some degree of command over the events and situations in our lives.
Try to relax once in a while. Stress can really take a toll on skin beauty. The larger the load of stress in your life is the worse your skin shows its signs. While you?ll never be able to remove all stress from your life there are things you can do to pamper your skin during those stressful moments. Lowering the stress level in your life is the first step you need to take though. Stress doesn?t just wreak havoc on our skin. Stress can charge a high price on health both physically and emotionally. There are all sorts of common sense things that you can do to keep your skin clean, clear and free of problems. It doesn?t matter if you?re trying to erase the damage of the sun, remove those tell-tale fine lines, or just want to get rid of facial hair there are plenty of options available that won?t send you to the poor house. These common sense helpers are sure to get you off to one terrific start.

Post-College Credit Card Debt? Consider Credit Counseling ...
Today?s college students face a world of uncertainties upon graduation. Finding a job and a place to live can make it difficult when trying to make a new start. And now, more than ever, college graduates are also faced with mountains of credit card debt, creating additional financial problems for 20-somethings just starting out in the world.
From Broke to Spending With Deferred Consequences
Credit card companies are notorious for awarding college students credit lines well above their means. It is not uncommon for a full-time college student to receive a $10,000 ? $15,000 line of credit, even without a job or any regular income.
Credit cards make careless, reckless spending incredibly tempting ? and incredibly easy ? for college students. They can go from broke one day to having $10,000 to spend the next. Dinners, clothing, book, gas and beer don?t seem quite so expensive when they are paid for with a simple swipe of plastic. In addition to large balances, students are also faced with extremely high interest rates as they rack up balances and missed payments. And although students may be fully aware of the fact that they have signed a contract and do need to pay their debt, it is easy to fall into the trap of rationalizing paying for their expenses with plastic. Thoughts like ?As long as I keep paying the minimum,? or, ?I?ll pay it off when I have a steady income? offer comfort and justification. Meanwhile, severe damage is being done to credit scores, and by the time graduation rolls around, both balances and interest rates can reach epic proportions.
Help is Available
So what can be done if you or someone you know is faced with post-college credit card debt? Non-profit credit card counseling services offer a variety of services for individuals looking for ways to manage their credit card debt. Through a credit card counseling program, trained counselors will work with you to assess your situation and come up with a plan tailored specifically for you and your needs. Together, you will look at how much money you owe your creditors compared to how much income you have available to you. Your counselor can help you come up with several options depending on your situation, such as setting and maintaining a monthly budget to help you pay down your debt and get on your feet financially.
When choosing a credit card counseling program, be sure to look for a reputable non-profit agency. Unlike a for-profit agency whose aim is to turn a profit at your expense, a non-profit agency has your best interests mind.
The author has an immense knowledge on credit card counseling services. Know more about credit card counseling program related info in his website.

How To Successfully Get Rid Of Your Acne | New Health and Fitness
Everyone desires clear, healthy skin, along with a beautiful complexion. Unfortunately, some people, especially teenagers, have to deal with acne. While acne can sometimes be a minor issue, often it is serious enough to cause shame and desperation to the sufferer. The tips in this article will help you banish acne and improve your skin.
Add some chromium to your daily regimen to fight acne breakouts. This supplement helps the skin by helping it strengthen and repair itself more quickly. It?s a great boost that can help skin fight off infection much quicker, since that is generally what causes acne.Taking this once a day can help keep your skin clear and prevent breakouts from popping up in the future.
To help treat existing acne and prevent future breakouts, drink plenty of water. Water helps the body flush out toxins and substances which can harm your complexion. Water also helps keep the skin pliable. Try to drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water each day to help keep skin hydrated and clear.
Be sure you wash your hair regularly with a shampoo that won?t irritate your skin. Your hair can contain grease, dirt, and oils and then transfer these contaminants to your skin as it rubs against your face during the day. Keeping your hair clean and off your face will reduce this issue.
If your hair is oily, try to use a shampoo with pyrithione zinc, which can improve the overall quality of your scalp. During the night, your hair will come in contact with your pillow, which will touch your skin, making proper hair nutrition essential. Using this nutrient in your shampoo can help control the oil on your face.
Do not pop your pimples! It may be initially satisfying, but it is very bad for the healing process. Popping a pimple can force the infection deeper into your pores, causing it to last longer and become more inflammed. You also risk spreading the infection to other pores nearby.
The best tip to avoid acne is to keep your face clean. Acne forms from oils that build up on the skin and cause irritations. If you clean your face once or twice a day you can wash away these oils and avoid acne and keep your face looking great.
Take a deep breath and blow acne away. Ten minutes of deep breathing twice a day, when you wake up and before bed, has a myriad of health benefits from lowering blood pressure to assisting to heal ulcers. Studies show that this type of breathing helps relax the mind and body, cleansing you of many ailments.
Stick to natural products if you have acne-prone skin. Many facial products contain harsh chemicals. These chemicals strip the skin of its natural oils. This causes your skin to become dry, or in some cases, actually triggers an increase in oil production in the face to compensate for the lost oils. Both outcomes often result in even more acne.
Acne is something that most people experience at one point in their lives be it during their teen years or during their adult life. Regardless, it is a frustrating state of affairs.
To reduce the redness that often comes with acne-irritated skin, stay cool. When your body overheats, it gets rid of the extra warmth by sending heat into your capillaries, where the heat can escape through your skin. Unfortunately, this creates a flushed look that can emphasize already-reddened pimples or broken capillaries. Have a cool drink, turn on the fan and avoid steam rooms and sunburns if you want to keep redness at bay.
If you deal with acne issues and need help then follow the advice you have just read. These tips will help you treat your acne and improve your skin. Do not let the embarrassment of an acne breakout, put you in hiding. Whether you are a teenager or an adult, beautiful skin can be yours!

Radiohead, Chili Peppers, Phish lead Bonnaroo

By Benjy Eisen, Rolling Stone
Bonnaroo has officially confirmed that, as rumored, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Phish?will anchor the 11th incarnation of the iconic music festival, which will take place from June 7 to 10 in Manchester, Tenn. The above headliners will be joined by recent Grammy winners Bon Iver and Skrillex, a reunited Beach Boys and comedian Aziz Ansari. All told, more than 150 bands and nearly two dozen comedians will offer fans continuous entertainment on 13 stages over the course of four sleepless days and nights.
True to its formula, Bonnaroo's lineup breaks away from other major U.S. festivals who have often been accused of homogeneous programming. This year, shock rocker Alice Cooper will join the party. So will rapper Ludacris. The festival will honor its jam band roots with performances from Umphrey's McGee, ALOand Dispatch, while also making room for electronic acts with sets by Flying Lotus, Major Lazer and Big Gigantic. Hardcore group Bad Brains will make their inaugural Bonnaroo appearance as will Spectrum Road, an all-star band featuring Cream's Jack Bruce, Living Colour's Vernon Reid, Carlos Santana's wife Cindy Blackman, and revered organist John Medeski.
Indie rock royalty will appear alongside current up-and-comers with sets by the Shins, the Avett Brothers, Foster the People, Feist, tUnE-yArDs, Little Dragon, Mogwai, Dawes and Alabama Shakes among many others.
Watch the best of Bonnaroo 2011 in video highlights
When Bonnaroo launched in 2002, it imagined itself as a cross between Phish's homegrown parties in the Northeast and the New Orlean's Jazz and Heritage Festival in Louisiana. In fact, Bonnaroo organizers brought in some of the creative team behind Phish'sevents, while creating a format that was directly inspired by what they saw at the fairgrounds in New Orleans. In keeping with the spirit that the festival was built upon, when Phish finally performed at Bonnaroo, in 2009, they brought out Bruce Springsteen to jam.
But it's not only jam bands who jam at Bonnaroo-- collaborations are frequent and bands often feel free to take more risks than they might otherwise. A large part of that has to do with the vibe. Fans who make the annual pilgrimage to Tennessee tend to listen to bands, not hype. Multiple musicians seem to comment on this from stage every year and the band-fan respect is so high that it is not uncommon to see artists roaming the grounds and watching other sets from out in the field, when their own duties have been fulfilled.
Tickets will go on sale this Saturday, Feb. 18, at noon ET, at bonnaroo.com.

Make Your Swimming Pool More Fun Throughout The Year With A ...
Heating your pool does not have to raise your utility bills dramatically, or in some cases at all. If you live in a region that receives a fair share of sun, invest in solar pool products that capture the sun?s rays in order to heat the water in your swimming pool. Regardless of what kind of pool you have and where you live there is a heater that will be compatible with yours. When you are shopping for pool heaters, there are a lot of different styles and variations.
How does one go about deciding on the best choice? First of all, nearly everyone who owns a pool can receive advantages from a high efficiency low maintenance model. Other things to think about are what kind of pool you have (is it above or in the ground?), lifestyle (how often you intend to use the heater), the climate (the solar powered designs are best for those who live in warm, sunny parts of the country) and altitude (higher altitudes may require specialized equipment). Hayward, Pentair and Jandy are some of the brands most often purchased. Look for construction that is high quality and meant to outlast the high wind and inclimate weather. Some models also weigh less to make installation easier, feature digital controls to simplify operation, are adaptable to existing equipment and/or work with salt based chlorination systems. In order to save a great deal on your energy costs, get yourself a heat pump for your pool.
Solar based pool heaters is the most cost effective way to make your swimming season last longer. Both in ground pools and above ground ones can benefit from the use of a solar heating system. Easy to install by yourself ? no professionals need ? it is designed to raise your water temperature up to 15 degrees higher without the use of natural gas or electricity. This solar system is easily integrated with your existing equipment. The pool water temperature will increase as it circulates through solar channels. If you are considering solar but aren?t ready to install a complete system, start small with something like the SolarPro Solar Pool Heater.
Other solar options are likely the most inexpensive ones you will find. Covers and rings are used to collect and convert sunlight into warmer water. These durable customizable covers fit your pools size and shape while holding the sun?s warm rays so you can enjoy a comfortable pool the following day. The hoop has a radius of 2.5 feet and is created to accomplish the same thing, but using a lesser scale. You will be less reliant on the resources of our fine planet if you use these specific pool supplies, for example.
Central Florida?s swimming pool needs like heating, equipment repair and replacement, chemistry automation, renovation, and home solar hot water heating systems are primarily looked after by Everything 4 Pools and Solar. Owned by Mike Steininger, a lifelong Central Florida resident, our team of pool and solar professionals has over 30 years of experience. Mike served as operations manager for the largest swimming pool heating contractor in North America for over 20 years. Then, in 2002, he opened his own business. Our active licenses cover installation and repair on heater installations for both pools and spas. Everything 4 Pools and Solar offers professional work, fair pricing, and is a one stop store when you want to renovate your pool, repair or replace needed equipment, or switch over to solar heating.

Deconstructing a mystery: What caused Snowmaggedon?

NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center
In the quiet after the storms, streets and cars had all but disappeared under piles of snow. The U.S. Postal Service suspended service for the first time in 30 years. Snow plows struggled to push the evidence off of major roads. Hundreds of thousands of Washington metropolitan residents grappled with the loss of electricity and heat for almost a week.
By Feb. 10, 2010 the National Weather Service reported that three storms spanning from December to February in the winter of 2009-10 had dumped a whopping 54.9 inches of snow on the Baltimore-Washington area. The snowfall broke a seasonal record first set in 1899. Snowmaggedon, as the winter was dubbed, entered the history books as the snowiest winter on record for the U.S. East Coast.
Two years later, scientists are still searching to identify the unique set of conditions that enabled storms of this magnitude to occur. To determine a direct cause to infrequent but major winter storms, Siegfried Schubert and colleagues Yehui Chang and Max Suarez all of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md., became detectives.
Schubert is a meteorologist and senior research scientist for Goddard's Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO). Using a computer model that simulates the atmosphere, called the Goddard Earth Observing System Model, Version 5 (GEOS-5), Schubert pieced together the meteorological whodunit of 2010's 'Snowmaggedon.'
"There are things that we know that affect storminess over the U.S.," Schubert said. "One is when there is an El Nio, which tends to favor more storms. Given the connection between El Nio and sea surface temperatures, we thought we'd actually do a modeling study to see if we could pinpoint the role of sea surface temperatures in driving the snowstorms."
Warmer Pacific Can Mean Stormy Atlantic
El Nio is an ocean-atmospheric climate pattern characterized by unusually warm sea surface temperatures and heightened rainfall in the central and eastern tropical Pacific. The increased rain occurs when warm sea surface temperatures heat the surrounding air, which then rises and condenses into rain clouds. The end result of these changes in the tropics is a shifting of the extra-tropical air currents, or jet streams. Changes in the jet streams can then alter storm paths around the globe.
Over the U.S., El Nio tends to produce an unusual eastward extension of the Pacific jet stream and storminess across the southern tier of states. Using the GEOS-5 model, Schubert and his team isolated the role that sea surface temperatures played in changing the storminess across the Northern Hemisphere. By initializing the model with the early December 2009 atmospheric conditions and the higher sea surface temperatures from that time, Schubert and his colleagues were able to reproduce many of the subsequent changes in winter storminess.
"El Nio is predictable on monthly and seasonal time scales. But we know that sea surface temperatures don't control everything about the atmosphere," Schubert said. "Storms develop in the atmosphere whenever they decide to as a result of instabilities. Models can't replicate the actual sequence of events in predictions extending beyond a few weeks, but they can predict whether or not there will be more or fewer storms, because of the sea surface temperatures." Schubert and his team ran 50 different simulations, slightly changing the atmospheric conditions each time while keeping the actual sea surface temperatures the same. In the end, the data showed that the storms were influenced more by the sea surface temperatures, and less by the changing atmospheric conditions.
"The atmosphere is chaotic, but if we do this over and over again, slightly changing the initial conditions, we can average the runs, filter out all the random atmosphere variability and see the part that's driven by sea surface temperatures," Schubert said.
Getting Snow Instead of Rain
While El Nio tends to produce greater storminess, it does not necessarily lead to more snowstorms along the East Coast. Without colder temperatures, these storms bring just rain.
Cue the second culprit: a fluctuation of the atmospheric pressure differences in the Atlantic between the Icelandic low-pressure field and the Azores high-pressure field further south. The North Atlantic Oscillation, as it is called, controls the strength and direction of westerly winds, as well as storm tracks across the North Atlantic. Scientists cannot predict these fluctuations very well. But it is known that in a positive phase, the north-south pressure difference is enhanced and the west-to-east winds are strong, effectively creating a wall that keeps cold air in the Arctic. In the negative phase, the north-south pressure difference is reduced, allowing cold Arctic wind to bear down across the North Atlantic.
"It's a structure that tends to favor cold temperatures on the East Coast when it's in the negative phase," said Schubert. While the atmospheric pressure fields oscillate at daily and weekly time scales, the winter of 2009-10 saw the North Atlantic Oscillation in a strong extended-negative phase. Combine the resulting influx of Arctic air for an unusually long period of time with the moisture and storminess from El Nio, and the once fuzzy cause of these monster storms starts to come into focus. The research shows that the extreme weather over the Eastern U.S. in the winter of 2009-10 was part of a response mainly to El Nio and its associated Pacific Ocean sea surface temperatures.
The results were then compared with those of a winter (1999-2000) characterized by having completely opposite conditions: a La Nia and a positive phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation. When compared with Snowmaggedon, the winter of 1999-2000 showed less storminess and decreased chances of snow. This comparison helped Schubert and his team corroborate the hypothesis, confirming that El Nio-induced sea surface temperatures and an extended negative phase of the North Atlantic Oscillation caused the changes in 2009-10 winter storminess.
Predicting Another Snowmaggedon
In order to improve snow predictions, scientists need to better understand how the North Atlantic Oscillation works and what causes it to stay in an extended period.
There is evidence that the extended negative mode is impacted by sea surface temperatures and maybe even snow cover in Asia. Scientists, however, have not directly linked any one weather variable to the North Atlantic Oscillation.
"People have done these historical studies before to come up with measures, and if you look at the record of major snow storms, some have occurred during El Nio winters and a negative North Atlantic Oscillation phase," Schubert said. "But sea surface temperatures impacting storminess in the different ocean basins has never been quantified and it's never been clear what is a relative contribution and in what way they are contributing," he added.
Richard Seager, a research professor at the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory at Columbia University, also studies how El Nio and weakened atmospheric pressure contributes to snow anomalies.
"This model not only confirms that a negative North American Oscillation and El Nio conditions created the conditions that allowed these storms to form," said Seager, who did not work with Schubert on this research. "But it is useful in showing how the atmosphere can act differently when combining El Nio with different sea surface temperatures. These models provide controlled conditions, which allow us to be sure about the exact causes," Seager added.
Scientists have predicted that current La Nia conditions and below-average sea surface temperatures might be the cause for the mild 2012 winter on the Eastern U.S. Examples like this, Schubert said, is why it is important to better understand the relationship between sea surface temperatures and storminess. "People want to know whether it's going to be a snowy winter. Snow prediction is developing but if we predict El Nio, we know it will be more likely stormier. Now whether those storms will be rain or snow depends on the North Atlantic oscillation, which is a big challenge for us because of its constant oscillations." Schubert and his team's extended findings on the role of sea surface temperatures in Snowmaggedon will be published in the Journal of Climate this spring.
